Dortmund 3-0 Club Brugge: Thorgan Hazard brace seals victory

Rapid Recap

Borussia Dortmund secured a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Club Brugge in their opening Champions League match on Wednesday, with Thorgan Hazard scoring twice in the first half.

The Belgian winger opened the scoring in the 14th minute, tapping in from close range after Karim Adeyemi's effort was parried by Simon Mignolet.

Hazard doubled Dortmund's lead just before the half-hour mark, curling a sumptuous shot into the top corner from the edge of the area. Donyell Malen added a third goal in the 50th minute, heading in from close range after a cross from Marius Wolf.

Key Performers

Hazard was undoubtedly Dortmund's star performer, scoring two excellent goals and causing Brugge's defense problems all evening.

Jude Bellingham was also impressive in midfield, controlling the tempo of the game and dictating play from deep.

Club Brugge goalkeeper Mignolet made several fine saves to keep the scoreline respectable, but he was unable to prevent Dortmund from securing a deserved victory.

Tactical Analysis

Dortmund played in a 4-3-3 formation, with Adeyemi, Malen, and Hazard forming a fluid attacking trio.

Bellingham and Salih Ozcan operated in central midfield, with Wolf and Thomas Meunier providing width from the full-back positions.

Club Brugge set up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Ferran Jutgla and Andreas Skov Olsen leading the line.

Hans Vanaken played in a withdrawn role behind the strikers, while Tajon Buchanan and Kamal Sowah provided support from the wings.

What's Next?

Dortmund will be looking to build on their positive start to the Champions League when they travel to Copenhagen in their next match on October 5.

Club Brugge, meanwhile, will host Atletico Madrid on the same date.
