Giants Dump Salary, Pick Up Player
SAN FRANCISCO -- Tuesday's 3 pm PT Trade Deadline just got a whole lot more interesting for the Giants. With a 5-4 win over the last-place Rockies in Sunday afternoon's series finale at Coors Field, the Giants improved to 53-52, just 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot in the NL. As a result, San Francisco has gone from seller to potential buyer ahead of the deadline.
Amid a great seller's market, the Giants dumped salary and picked a player off the scrap heap. The Giants and Cubs lined up to make a blockbuster deal at the 2021 Trade Deadline with San Francisco sending prospects Caleb Killian and Alexander Canario to Chicago for Kris Bryant.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman also reported that the Giants weren't willing to include any money in a Snell trade to cover the significant remaining cost of his contract.
