Max Verstappen Takes His First Pole Position Of 2024 In Bahrain

Exciting Qualifying For The Bahrain Grand Prix

Verstappen Claims 33rd Career Pole

Max Verstappen has claimed his 33rd career pole position and first of 2024 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver beat out his teammate Sergio Perez by just 0.056 seconds to take the top spot on the grid for Sunday's race.

The qualifying session was a thrilling affair, with the top three drivers all within a tenth of a second of each other. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was third, just 0.094 seconds behind Verstappen. The top three teams were also separated by less than a tenth of a second, with Mercedes just 0.124 seconds behind Red Bull.

Verstappen was delighted with his performance, saying: "It was a great qualifying session. The car was feeling really good and I was able to push hard. I'm really happy to get my first pole position of the season."

The Dutchman will be hoping to convert his pole position into a race win on Sunday. He will be the favourite to do so, but he will face a tough challenge from his teammate Perez and from Leclerc.

The Bahrain Grand Prix is the first race of the 2024 Formula 1 season. It will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain. The race will be 57 laps of the 5.412-kilometer circuit.
